Local tips
De Pijp has the best neighbourhood food scene — Albert Cuyp Market on weekday mornings is the local way.
Rent a bike. Seriously. Amsterdam is designed for cycling, not walking. OV-fiets is the local system.
Noord, across the IJ river (free ferry from Central Station), is Amsterdam's creative, industrial neighbourhood.
The Rijksmuseum has a free passage through its ground floor open 24/7 — with free views of the courtyard art.
Watch out for cyclists — they always have right of way and will not stop for pedestrians.
